It helps re-unite your body and mind by means of teaching the importance of corporal awareness.
But, lets not forget, that this experience, which includes all efforts, dedication, and mind power, all come from the individual. It's a subjective cognizant transformation. You are the one sending the brain signals which make you breathe a certain way, conscious of where and what your are feeling, and concentrate on a pose.

Yoga practices instigate a sea of hyper-consciousness. But, from my point of view, the most common error is that we leave it behind the moment we step out of the class space. The whole point (or at least one of the points) of yoga is to re-evaluate our ways of knowing; knowledge is interconnected. So, when we are breaking our conventional perceptions and understandings, we should apply all of this to other aspects of life. In that way, a Yoga practice isn't determined by a scheduled time slot and instead is a way of living.
